Nepal is Agriculture based country. Here more than 55 % of people are involve in Agriculture. Agriculture is the main economic activity of people in Nepal. It contributes about 24.26 % of Gross domestic product (GDP) in year 2019. Agriculture plays important role to raise up the economy and living standard of Nepalese people. Agriculture is backbone of the economic system of our country Nepal.In past days Nepalese people use to follow traditional way of Agriculture but now people are getting modernized. They are using modern way of Agriculture. Modernization in Agriculture is leading to growth in production. In past decades Agriculture is associate only with production of essential food crops but now it includes fruit cultivation, poultry, dairy production, forestry, bee keeping etc.

secondly, Agriculture is major platform that creates employment opportunities. More than 55% people are involve directly and indirectly in Agriculture. More than half of population is engage to Agriculture. From this data we can assume the role of Agriculture in generating employment. Thirdly , Agriculture is major source to import foreign currency in our country. The whole nation’s export trade is largely dependent on Agriculture sector. Every year different goods like cardamom, coffee, tea, jute ,spices etc are export to different markets of world. Agriculture contribute about 18% of total country export. As a result country national income level is increasing as well as the living standard and economy of people or farmers is increasing.
Also Agriculture is playing important role to nourish and protect nature . It helps to decrease pollution and increase greenery. Planting of fruits trees in barren land and hills areas protects from different natural disasters like Landslides, flood ,etc.
Another important role of Agriculture is its role in food security. Food security is major issue in the developing country like Nepal. Many people are unable to get require food and nutrition due to poverty. But engagement of people in Agriculture leads to food security. World population is increasing rapidly while the productive land is decreasing day by day . It can leads to starvation. Many countries in world are facing starvation. According to US AID more than 2 billion people in world are going beyond hunger Whereas more then 1 million children, womens, old people are dying every year due to starvation.
So Agriculture plays Important role in Nation development. It has great role to raise the economy of country. Also it is major source of employment. It is major contributor of National export. It also plays role in food security. So we can summarise Agriculture plays important role in the development of our country.
